America changed half its bosses, and my coin went up

In the midterm elections, Democrats won both chambers of Congress. Trump is still president, so this isn’t “Democratic rule”—it’s divided government: the White House and Congress are controlled by different parties. The White House makes the decisions; Congress controls funding and legislation. Since they’re not on the same team, big decisions will involve a lot of arguing.

About the US stock market:
Historically, the stock market has usually done pretty well under divided government. The reason is that the two sides block each other, making major new policies difficult to pass. The market, in turn, finds the outlook more predictable.

The sector hit most directly this time is AI data centers. The results in Texas have already sent related stocks down once, because Texas accounts for about 27% of the planned data center power capacity in the US (Wells Fargo data).

There’s more uncertainty around energy approvals and electricity price subsidies. Measures that need Congress’s support, such as extending tax cuts and imposing tariffs, will move more slowly. Antitrust scrutiny of tech giants could also get tougher.

About crypto:
The GENIUS stablecoin bill is already law, and the rules for regulating issuers are scheduled to take effect on January 18, 2027. This election can’t change that.

The CLARITY market structure bill is what’s stalled: it passed the House, but an advancement vote failed in the Senate on September 15. This Congress ends on January 3. If it doesn’t make it in time, the process will have to start over, and the new Congress may well make it stricter.

Congress may scrutinize crypto projects linked to the Trump family, such as WLFI. The new Congress won’t be able to take real action until it takes office next January.

💰 What about prices?
On election night, BTC briefly fell to around 75.7K (CoinDesk), then bounced back in a V-shape to around 78.3K. The latest price I checked was around 80.4K (CoinGecko; around 80.3K on Coinbase), up about 3.5% in 24 hours.

In a nutshell: policy will move more slowly, regulation will get tougher, but it’s not the end of the world. The real crackdown will have to wait until next January.
