An old story that seemed like “making a mountain out of a molehill” was confirmed firsthand by He Yi: a Binance employee once downloaded iQIYI on a work computer and was fired as a result. Responding to a security incident, she said: “We’ll own the mistake and pay the price, but we can’t let it happen again.”

An exchange is, at its core, also a security company. Work devices may have access to permissions, logs, and internal systems, while third-party video apps can introduce attack vectors through their software supply chains, update mechanisms, plugin permissions, and even credential leaks. Compensating for losses after an incident shows accountability; preventing the same mistake from happening again requires policies.

The stricter the rules, the higher the cost of a breach is likely to be. This is also a reminder for ordinary users: use dedicated devices where possible, install fewer unnecessary apps, enable two-factor authentication, and keep permissions properly isolated.
