Binance recently suffered losses of $6.3 billion in a hacker attack. Over 9.5 hours, it processed $4.65 billion in withdrawals, with a net outflow of $3.64 billion.
Honestly, at any other exchange, numbers like these would be enough to trigger an immediate collapse, an obituary, and leave users footing the bill.
But Binance held steady for one core reason: its enormous scale and deep reserves.
Binance holds a total of $1.71 trillion in assets under custody. This massive net outflow amounted to just 2.1% of its total assets.
The panic-driven exodus looked frightening, but compared with its pool of funds, it was nowhere near enough to shake its foundations.
Many people remember last week’s record-breaking $6.3 billion crypto theft. The FBI confirmed that North Korean hackers were responsible.
At the time, Binance urgently froze withdrawals for 45 hours. After the dust settled, many users chose to withdraw their funds as a precaution, leading to this large outflow.
But many people overlooked a key detail:
While $4.65 billion flowed out, another $1.01 billion flowed in voluntarily!
This wasn’t a one-way flight from a collapsing exchange. It was simply funds being reshuffled and repriced after market panic.
The clearest comparison is FTX, which collapsed back then:
In just a few days, 36.7% of FTX’s assets flowed out. A quarter of its funds was withdrawn in a single day, leaving it completely insolvent.
Binance, by contrast, saw an outflow of just 2.1%—the difference is night and day:
FTX died from insolvency; Binance is experiencing normal liquidity fluctuations.

CZ put it plainly: 98% of users chose to stay.
He Yi also drew a clear line, saying Binance shouldn’t be compared to FTX. She focused on just two points:
System security comes first, and 95% of the stolen assets have been covered.
This turmoil has also helped everyone see Binance’s true moat:
Many people may panic, lose trust in centralized platforms, and withdraw their funds as a precaution—but they simply can’t do without Binance.
Top quantitative firms and major traders in the crypto industry won’t pull out entirely.
That’s because Binance is the only platform in the crypto world with top-tier liquidity, market depth, and trading conditions.
Users may lose trust, but they can’t escape its position in the market.
The massive $4.65 billion in withdrawals doesn’t mean Binance is in danger, nor is this simply a story of it weathering the storm.
This is the market’s truest verdict:
Even after the largest crypto theft in history, 98% of users still chose to trust Binance and stay.$BNB
