Crypto runs 24/7, and traditional banking infrastructure is moving closer to that pace

On November 2, 2026, at Hong Kong FinTech Week, the HKMA announced that EnsembleTX had entered a new phase, supporting 24/7 real-value transactions under its tokenization project.

The HKMA also said it had completed secondary-market pilot transactions involving tokenized Exchange Fund Bills. Expanding the pilot to regulated stablecoins is still a future step.

Why should crypto watchers pay attention?

Putting assets on a blockchain only solves part of the problem. If settlement money still has to wait for business hours, the ability to move capital across time zones remains limited. Always-on payment infrastructure could make managing tokenized portfolios and treasury funds more flexible.

But having a track to run on doesn’t mean capital will automatically flow in. I’ll be watching actual transaction volumes, the ability to buy and sell assets again, and how many institutions use the system. This announcement also doesn’t mean every customer can trade every asset 24/7.
