#Hyperliquid Oil Price Manipulation Concerns

Monitoring firm Solidus Labs disclosed that during the sharp oil price swings from March 8–10, two accounts on Hyperliquid engaged in suspicious spoofing activity involving a total of $170 million in abnormal orders. The activity primarily targeted Brent crude perpetuals, while also affecting WTI and natural gas perpetuals. The trader ultimately made a profit of about $119,000.
Method: Placing large one-sided orders in the order book to create false impressions of supply and demand, then quickly canceling them while executing genuine trades on the other side to induce other traders to follow suit. The activity has only been flagged as suspicious; intent to manipulate has not been established, and regulators have made no formal finding or issued any conviction.

Market outlook

Bearish factors: Regulatory scrutiny is increasing. The CFTC is already advancing oversight of event contracts, and this incident may heighten expectations of scrutiny for DeFi commodity perpetual contracts, weighing on sentiment toward the Hyperliquid ecosystem and similar on-chain TradFi derivatives. Volatility in oil and crypto-linked assets may increase.
Supportive factors: The profits from the spoofing were very small and did not materially affect traditional crude oil spot or exchange-traded futures prices. The activity was limited to on-chain perpetual markets on Hyperliquid, with limited impact on oil fundamentals.

Key BTC levels

Support: 79666; strong support at 79350
Resistance: 80900, 81800
Outlook: This is a regulatory-sentiment-driven bearish factor that may weigh on risk appetite in the short term. The main market driver remains expectations for FOMC rate hikes. If the 79666 low holds, sentiment may settle and the market may return to its previous rhythm.
