Ripio has filed an application with the Central Bank of Brazil for a license to operate as a virtual asset broker, covering cryptocurrency intermediation, custody and exchange, while continuing to serve customers in the country.
Ripio’s application to the Central Bank covers three areas: virtual asset intermediation, cryptocurrency custody and exchange. With this scope, the Argentine-founded broker aims to bring its operations in Brazil in line with the regulatory framework the Central Bank is developing for the sector.
The company confirmed that it continues to serve users in Brazil while its application is under review. Maintaining the service while the process is underway is common practice under the regulatory model adopted by the Central Bank for crypto asset exchanges.
The timing of the application is significant: Ripio had halted Pix operations and trading in Brazil on October 29, making its filing with the Central Bank a sign that the company intends to formally reposition itself in the Brazilian market, this time with regulatory approval in hand.
