U.S. stocks are waiting for earnings reports, but crypto has already handed in its own report card today—and the most striking thing about it isn’t the drop, but the “divergence.”
I pulled the live rankings: the average gain among the top risers was +7.2%, while the average loss among the top decliners was -8.9%—a 16-percentage-point gap. But the leaders were barely moving: BTC 79,610 (-1.55%), BNB -0.87%, XRP -1.35%. Who’s falling? T -28.7%, PEPE -5.8%, WLD -4.8%—all long-tail tokens with no buyers stepping in.
Even more dramatic is ERA: yesterday it was No. 1 among the biggest decliners (-20.4%); today it’s No. 1 among the biggest gainers (+23.0%). Do the math: those who bought the dip on T yesterday are down another 28.7% on paper today. “The biggest drop means the safest bet” doesn’t hold up on this leaderboard—$T has given you the answer twice in two days.
My stance: bearish on the long tail, watching the leaders from the sidelines. The same rule applies during earnings season: capital retreats to certainty. BTC’s share of trading volume is still 32.1%; the money hasn’t left, it’s just retreated to the leaders. After briefly reclaiming 80,000 and then losing it again, don’t touch the decliners until it can hold above that level.
How would you grade this “earnings report”—the leaders or the long tail?
