Came across this on the SEC website: the Division of Examinations announced its examination priorities for fiscal year 2027 today, with tokenization listed as a risk under “market infrastructure.”

Key details: Announcement No. 2026-109 covers more than 34,000 registered entities. Priorities include investment advisers’ fiduciary duties and conflicts of interest, retail investor protection, private funds and private credit, broker-dealer anti-money laundering and trading supervision, operational resilience and cybersecurity. On emerging technologies, it calls out the impact of “superintelligence” and other advanced technologies on market operations, compliance, fraud prevention, and investor protection. Under market infrastructure, it specifically mentions Treasury clearing reforms, tokenization, and related structural changes.

This isn’t an enforcement action or a new rule taking effect, but it is the official list of what examiners will be focusing on next year. The industry generally uses it to adjust compliance priorities.
