I was hoping to take a serious look at the latest breakthrough in sickle cell gene therapy, but right at the start of this Sina Finance article, they suddenly shoehorned in an ad for registration for some conference in Shanghai on October 20.

It was supposed to be about lifesaving new treatments like Casgevy and Lyfgenia, yet the very first paragraph was interrupted by “A live conversation with internet-famous professors on how to break free from the rat race.” The contrast is just exasperating.

No matter how groundbreaking the technology is, an out-of-place marketing plug like this completely ruins the reading experience.
