There’s new movement in the U.S.-Iran standoff, and tensions are rising.

On the 16th, an Iranian military spokesperson said new weapons and equipment had been deployed, and that Iran’s defenses were much stronger than during its clashes with the U.S. and Israel. In recent weeks, Iran had also shot down several U.S. drones. The regular military and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Aerospace Force had held joint drills, significantly expanding the country’s defensive coverage.

Trump went further on the 15th, saying the U.S. might strike Iran’s nuclear facilities again. He specifically mentioned the underground nuclear facility at Pickaxe Mountain, saying the U.S. “might have to go in.” He said no ground troops would be sent and the facility would be destroyed quickly. But he also said the conflict would soon end and that Iran was negotiating with the U.S. Pickaxe Mountain is near Natanz. Iran says the site is empty, so striking it would be pointless.

There’s trouble at sea, too. On the 16th, Iran’s navy said another “violating” oil tanker caught fire in the eastern Strait of Hormuz after switching off its tracking system and attempting to enter a restricted area. A tanker also caught fire in the same waters the day before. Drones, nuclear facilities, and oil tankers—all at once. The situation is becoming increasingly precarious. #美伊冲突接下来会如何发展? #霍尔木兹海峡
