🚨 Binance.US is looking to raise funds: targeting a $1 billion valuation, less than a quarter of its 2022 valuation!
According to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter:
💰 It plans to raise up to $100 million in a private funding round, targeting a valuation of about $1 billion
📉 By comparison: when it raised over $200 million in 2022, its pre-money valuation was $4.5 billion
🏛 The fundraise is still in progress, and the size, valuation, and investors could all change
🇺🇸 The funds would be used to restore money transmitter licenses in some states, expand its U.S. business, and explore bringing in liquidity from Binance's global platform (no decision has been made)
🤝 World Liberty is aware of the fundraise, but another person familiar with the matter said it is not currently involved
My take:
1️⃣ After its 2023 settlement, Binance.US lost a significant amount of market share. This round is a sign it wants to "win back U.S. users"
2️⃣ The U.S. regulatory climate is warming, and competitors like Coinbase are adding products. This window won't stay open forever
3️⃣ If it really does connect to the global platform's deep liquidity, the impact on the trading experience for U.S. users will be the biggest variable to watch
Market snapshot: $BTC around 82,355 (24h +0.97%), $BNB around 733 (24h +0.69%), Fear & Greed Index at 53 (Neutral).
Do you think Binance.US can win back market share?
🔥 Yes, the U.S. market is recovering
🧊 Unlikely, competitors are already way ahead
