$TRUTH$The market broadly sees Cook’s China rollout announcement as a positive catalyst for AAPL, with the narrative that “sales in China are already up 22%” fueling optimism. But I think this is actually a contrarian signal that the good news has already been priced in, while the real risks are being underestimated. There are three reasons: First, bringing Apple Intelligence to China means it will have to integrate with a locally compliant model, most likely from Alibaba or Baidu. That effectively turns a differentiating selling point into a feature that “Android can do too,” diluting rather than expanding margins over the long term. Second, the 22% sales growth is the result of a low base and trading down through price cuts. Revenue in China is being driven by promotions, not AI, yet the market is tying it to the AI narrative in its valuation—a mismatch in logic. Third, the macro backdrop today is clearly risk-off: Yardeni is calling for further valuation multiple contraction, Anthropic news has triggered selling across AI stocks, and even strong TSMC results failed to lift the market. BTC has fallen to $80,866 (-3.17%), signaling broad deleveraging across risk assets. In this kind of liquidity-constrained environment, it’s hard for AAPL’s AI-related positives to drive gains on their own. On the options front, a look at AAPL’s recent call skew shows that call premiums have already been squeezed, with bullish positioning looking crowded. This kind of “the news breaks, and that’s the top” setup has appeared repeatedly in the past, such as after the Vision Pro launch in 2023. What do you think?
