When discussing @Acurast, don’t focus only on how many phones it has. What’s more worth paying attention to is whether it can handle the real execution needs of AI Agents.
AI Agents don’t just chat—they also need to call APIs, run automated tasks, and handle on-chain operations. These tasks don’t necessarily require powerful GPUs, but they do require devices to stay online, run reliably, and protect privacy.
Acurast aims to turn idle phones around the world into verifiable computing resources, so services deployed by developers can actually run.
The recently opened Deploy Agent portal is also pretty convenient. You can pay with USDC on Base to deploy, reducing the hurdles involved in wallet setup and transfers.
Of course, having a large number of devices doesn’t mean the business model will necessarily work. We’ll still need to see whether the number of real paid tasks continues to grow and whether the network can run reliably. The actual demand for $ACU also needs to be assessed in light of network usage; it shouldn’t simply be equated with demand for USDC payments.
If you have an idle Android phone, you can try it out yourself. I’ve put together the steps below 👇
📱 Acurast Phone Setup Guide
Step 1: Check your phone’s specs
· Android 12 or later
· The phone must not be rooted
· Keep the bootloader locked
Step 2: Install the app
· Download the official Acurast Processor Lite app
· No factory reset required
· An idle phone is recommended—don’t use your primary phone if it stores your wallet or important data
Step 3: Link your device
· Open Acurast Hub and connect your wallet
· Add a device to generate a linking QR code
· Scan the code with your old phone to complete linking
Step 4: Check the device status
· Confirm that device verification succeeded
· Check whether the node is active
· Confirm that the heartbeat is updating normally
⚠️ Note: Successful device verification doesn’t mean you’ll receive computing tasks right away, and rewards aren’t fixed. It’s best to try it out first before deciding whether to run it long term.
The project’s value ultimately depends on real demand and long-term performance. Keep an eye on it.
