There are now more orders on the books for Bitcoin, while a group of altcoins has fewer.
A CoinDesk study on October 10 compared buy and sell orders within 1% of the market price with levels at the start of 2025: BTC had more, while the selected altcoins had about one-sixth fewer.
Some altcoins have fallen quite a bit, so they may look cheap. But when the order book is thin, a single large sell order can push the price down. And even if you really want to sell at the current price, it may not be that easy.
These figures are just a historical snapshot, and orders can be canceled at any time. I’ll keep an eye on whether the altcoin order books recover.
