Many people use the terms Bitcoin and BTC as if they meant exactly the same thing, but technically they represent different concepts within the crypto ecosystem.

Bitcoin is the network, technology, and decentralized financial system created in 2009 by Satoshi Nakamoto. It is the protocol that makes it possible to send and receive value without banks, governments, or intermediaries. Bitcoin works thanks to a global network of thousands of computers that verify and record transactions on a public blockchain.

BTC, on the other hand, is the native currency of that network. It is the unit of measurement used within Bitcoin, similar to how the dollar uses USD or the euro uses EUR.

We can think of it in simple terms:

• #Bitcoin = the network and technology.
• $BTC = the currency that moves within that network.
