$NVDAB Truist comments on homebuilder stocks amid rising mortgage rates

Truist maintained its "Hold" rating on shares of D.R. Horton (NYSE:DHI), Meritage (NYSE:MTH), and Lennar (NYSE:LEN), warning that rising mortgage rates will weigh on the sector, particularly builders targeting the lower end of the market, according to a research note released Tuesday.

The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association released its capital markets statistics on Monday, covering September and the third quarter of 2026. Total issuance of government-backed mortgage securities in the third quarter reached $374 billion, up 6% year over year. This marked the slowest quarterly growth since 2024, compared with growth of 35% in the first quarter and 22% in the second quarter. September, meanwhile, recorded a year-over-year increase of just 2%.
