USDC’s balance is shrinking again; the direction is more worth watching than the one-day drop.

USDC’s total circulating supply across all chains was $74.32 billion the previous day, then stood at $73.96 billion on October 7—a net decrease of $360 million in a single day (DefiLlama). As minting and redemptions net out day by day, the balance is negative: more is being redeemed than minted, so the pool is shrinking.

Down about 0.5% in one day.

This kind of one-day net decline in stablecoin supply has happened before; what shifts is demand for stablecoins as a means of pricing within the market.

The next data point is still pending: if it keeps falling, redemptions haven’t stopped; if it rises above $73.96 billion, the money that was pulled out has returned.

What matters is whether this pool keeps shrinking.
