Syria is expected to become a new route for exporting Iraqi crude oil, allowing oil to be transported without passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iraq asked Syria to help export its oil by transporting it in trucks overland to a Mediterranean port, expanding an existing route already used to transport Iraqi fuel oil.
