Futures market watch: two reminders and one reference
For the futures market, I only look at how crowded it is—not messages in group chats.
I only care about three sets of numbers for futures. Everything else is noise.
1. BTC 83644, 24h 83442-86699, change -2.88%.
2. BTC open interest notional: 8.13 billion USD, 24h -0.30%
3. Account-wide long/short ratio: 1.42
My take: The funding rate has turned negative at -0.0052%, so shorts are paying. A short squeeze is worth watching, but only after price breaks above the 24h high. Before that, it’s all a bull trap.
Execution levels (based on current price ± structure, not an old chart):
- Momentum zone: Consider chasing only after breaking above 84,313; without a breakout, it’s a fakeout.
- Buy the pullback: 82,640-83,142; don’t buy if that level fails.
- No-trade zone: If the 1h candle closes below 82,138, I’m out of this trade.
My positioning: I don’t try to catch the first leg down. Until the drop is accompanied by a decline in open interest, getting in early is like catching a falling knife.
