Here’s my direct take on BTC tonight: this isn’t a breakout move—it’s a market caught in a squeeze.

Price tested 86,725 once and fell back. Volume has halved since yesterday’s 14:00 candle, which saw a huge 2,138-contract sell-off. For the past twelve hours, BTC has been moving back and forth between 85,200 and 86,000 on declining volume, with each hourly candle trading fewer than 400 contracts—the volume has dried up, and price is drifting like a ghost. In my experience, this kind of setup has only two ways out: either wait for the U.S. market open to bring in volume, or let the Asian session sweep the stops on both sides before choosing a direction.

There are only two key levels. Below, 84,972 is yesterday’s low and the bulls’ last line of defense in the short term. If it breaks, the next level to watch is the FVG gap around 84,200. Above, 86,725 is yesterday’s rejected high and the ceiling price has hit twice in a row on the 4-hour chart. A breakout needs confirmation from a surge in volume to at least 1,500 contracts per hour; otherwise, it’s a bull trap.

OI hasn’t risen today, holding nearly unchanged at 94.3K BTC—that means no new positions have entered during this consolidation. Funding rates have leaned bearish for three consecutive periods. The funding pressure on longs is limited, but direction is still uncertain. The BTC long/short ratio is 1.09, close to neutral, with no clear imbalance. The big players are waiting for the right moment.

ETH looks weaker: retail traders are still holding 73% of positions on the long side, and the LSR is 2.5. Retail is heavily skewed long, but larger traders aren’t following—that’s the number I’m most uneasy about. ETH has been trading in a narrow range for four hours; 2,680–2,738 is simply a waiting zone.

So my stance right now is: don’t chase BTC longs. Wait for a pullback to the 85,100–85,300 area and reassess. If price stabilizes there on declining volume as volume starts to recover, a short-term long could make sense, with a stop at 84,800 and a target of 86,200–86,700. For shorts, I’m waiting for a high-volume false breakout above 86,600—that’s the top I’d be willing to test.
