Friends on Discord ask me what books to read.

I recommended:

“Options, Futures & Other Derivatives”

“The Wealth of Nations” (Adam Smith)

“Game Theory”

“Currency Wars”

“The Times”

Why did I recommend these books?

Although many people in the crypto world trade perpetual contracts, I suspect most of them don’t really know about options, futures, derivatives, and their usual purposes—nor the standard combinations/strategies. This book is a foundational textbook for modern derivatives, and it’s used as a teaching text in many universities. It’s basically an “intro to the basics” level read.

The core of “The Wealth of Nations” is that when people chase profit, the market naturally generates a set of market rules—whether it’s “inferior coin driving out good” or “common prosperity.”

The core of game theory is that markets are jointly shaped by the participants. Constraints and interactions lead to outcomes that are not truly win-win, but instead “the big fish eat the small fish.”

“Currency Wars” is about macroeconomics: how hundreds of years of monetary hegemony shapes and dominates markets.

From the most original land wars of the Spring and Autumn period,

to the oil wars after World War II,
to the economic wars of the future—

the essence is still the struggle for monetary hegemony.

Wars, macro policy, rate cuts/raises, shrinking/expanding balance sheets—these in themselves are tools to maintain one’s own monetary hegemony.

Once you understand these, you can more or less get why when market conditions accelerate, it’s always easy for news catalysts to appear.

For example, last year’s Iran–Iraq war, or interest rate hike/cut cycles.

At its core, it’s about maintaining the monetary hegemony of hegemonic countries.

If you’re interested, take a look. It doesn’t really help much for short-term trading.

Long-term, it can help you build and refine your macro trading system.

Xiao Lin’s “The Times” is—well—I’m a fan of Xiao Lin. I’m supporting her. She’s a really interesting soul.

(tips: These books have nothing to do with me. I didn’t receive any endorsement fees either. I just read them myself and thought they were pretty good, so I’m recommending them. If money is tight, you can consider buying on PDD or Xianyu (idle fish). If you have enough funds, buy the正版/official editions.)
