🚨 After more than a decade, the world’s largest dollar-backed token is about to “go home” — its original resting place. This month, it plans to reopen the doors.

👀 This route it took once back in 2014; it was using the Omni protocol. Later, the main battlefield moved to Ethereum and TRON. Now it’s circling back with a size close to $190 billion. Tether’s CEO, Aldo Ardoino, left only three words on X: “It’s home.”
📊 The one responsible for the rollout is Utexo, an investment of Tether: founded in 2025. Earlier this year, it raised a $7.5 million seed round, has already obtained commercial licensing to issue it on Bitcoin, and plans to launch this month. Tether itself also holds about 100,000 Bitcoins, worth roughly $8.4 billion.
🔥 The gameplay is different from Ethereum’s: Utexo uses the RGB protocol, putting most transaction data outside the Bitcoin ledger. It focuses on three things—private transfers, direct exchange between BTC and it, and lending backed by native Bitcoin. Even attribution/ownership is anchored via UTXOs.
💡 What’s really worth watching isn’t just whether it can go live on Bitcoin, but that it chose the “privacy” route: no data on the public chain, which essentially asks compliance and anonymity to coexist in the same system—the kind of puzzle almost nobody has solved well so far.
⚠️ Let me say something a bit offensive: what people call “going home” is more like bringing the biggest dollar-backed token back to the chain it trusts most, and at the same time pulling settlement and liquidity into its own system. The excitement is theirs; the risk is ultimately something the market has to digest.
👀 It’s returning to the Bitcoin network—do you think this is good news or bad news?
