Two decimal figures about USDT in Venezuela circulate with the same label: “spread”. One is 3.04%. The other, 0.02%. Both are correct, but they don’t describe the same thing. In the capture from September 29, 2026 (02:00 UTC), USDT/VES appears at 971.28 Bs on the buy side and 942.67 Bs on the sell side: a difference of 28.62 Bs. The order book, measured at the same time, shows 963.00 Bs in the best sell offer and 963.20 Bs in the best buy offer: a difference of 0.20 Bs.

The distance between the two numbers isn’t an error or a contradiction. It’s the difference between a market average and the edge of an order book. And above all, it’s the clue to where the real liquidity is.

📊 Two spreads that measure different things

Before drawing conclusions it’s worth setting the vocabulary, because in P2P the word “buy” changes owners depending on who uses it.

• Buy price (971.28 Bs): what it costs to acquire 1 USDT by paying in bolívares.

• Sell price (942.67 Bs): what you receive when you deliver 1 USDT and get paid in bolívares.

• Aggregate spread: 28.62 Bs, i.e. 3.04% across those levels. It’s an average of market references, useful for seeing the full picture.

• Book spread: 0.20 Bs between the best ask (963.00) and the best bid (963.20), with a mid price of 963.10. Equivalent to 0.02%.

The book also confirms coherence with the rest of the board: the parallel dollar shows up at 963.47 Bs (963.36 buy / 963.58 sell, spread of 0.22 Bs), practically attached to the middle of the order book. When the parallel rate and the book match, the signal is that the short-term reference is well aligned.

📈 Why the 0.02% isn’t actually chargeable in practice

A 0.02% spread suggests it’s an easy difference to capture. It isn’t, and there are three checkable reasons in the data itself.

First, the two extremes don’t live on the same rail. The best ask (963.00 Bs, with 598.08 USDT) appears on other platforms without a declared bank. The best bid (963.20 Bs, with 1,201.78 USDT) is on Binance with Banesco. Those are different platforms and payment methods: there is no single order that connects both sides.

Second, the order book is crossed. The best bid (963.20) is higher than the best ask (963.00). That’s not an opportunity: it’s the sign that both levels belong to markets that don’t talk to each other.

Third, size matters. Simple arithmetic helps: buying 1,000 USDT at 963.00 costs 963,000 Bs; selling them at 963.20 brings back 963,200 Bs. The gross difference is 200 Bs, before commissions, execution times, limits per ad, and counterparty risk. Over an amount of that scale, any operational friction eats the margin.

In other words: the 0.02% is a price reference, not a plan.

🔎 The clue is in the intermediate step

If the overall spread is 3.04% and the book spread is 0.02%, the Venezuelan market has a staircase. And each step has a bank name.

• Global (Radar P2P): 3.04%.

• Mobile Payment: 11.13 Bs, 1.17%. Average buy 966.49 Bs, sell 955.36 Bs.

• “Other method” block: 12.42 Bs, 1.30%. Buy 967.66 Bs, sell 955.24 Bs.

• Banesco: 9.63 Bs, 1.00%. Buy 968.84 Bs, sell 959.21 Bs.

• Mercantil: 3.46 Bs, 0.36%. Buy 965.38 Bs, sell 961.92 Bs.

The pattern is clear: the spread compresses as you go from the headline down to the details. Someone trading while only looking at 3.04% is seeing the average of all rails mixed together; whoever checks the bank before moving bolívares finds differences of almost one percentage point.

💰 Where the real liquidity is: Banesco and Mercantil lead the buying

The depth of the book distributes muscle unevenly. On the buy orders side (bids), Banesco and Mercantil concentrate the best levels and several of the largest ones:

• Banesco: 963.20 Bs with 1,201.78 USDT; 963.00 with 6,988.58; 962.21 with 15,195.26; 962.30 with 5,000.

• Mercantil: 962.65 Bs with 10,952.20 USDT; 961.70 with 19,645.91; 961.63 with 36,529.60.
