【Today’s Toutiao Snapshot|9/23】
• $BTC spot about 85,529 (24h about −0.5%), range about 85,273–87,283; morning trading hovered near 86.5k, late session pulled back to 85.5k, digesting the ongoing wave shift down by one tier
• $ETH about 2,723 (−1.0%), $SOL about 117 (−0.3%), BNB about 780 (−0.9%), XRP about 1.569 (+1.9%)
• Sentiment: Fear Greed 71 (Greed). Compared to yesterday’s 78 Extreme Greed, it has fallen by one tier; the late session has not worsened further.
• Spot ETF (Farside finalization date): Monday 9/21 BTC about +9.99B, ETH about +270M; Tuesday 9/22 BTC about +715M, ETH about +162M; Wednesday (U.S. East time) not finalized—do not treat incomplete figures as final values.
• Macros: Polymarket expects a 25bp rate hike in October at about 53.5%, with about 45.5% for keeping rates unchanged; for December, +25bp is about 67.5% and staying unchanged about 27.5%.
• DefiLlama total TVL is about $186.7B, down slightly from yesterday
• Hot side: ZRO about +21%, BCH about +20%, TIA about +16%, PENGU about +12%, BONK about +11%; UNI is still around +5% but has already given back its double-digit gains from earlier; turnover remains near the 100M-level. Cold side: PUMP about −8%, TAO about −3.5%, PEPE about −3%.
• Products/derivatives: CME plans to list standard + micro futures for BCH and UNI on 10/19 (pending regulatory approval). It’s still the main narrative for alts, but UNI hype has already cooled.
• Institutions/on-chain: In two days, spot BTC ETF inflows total around $1.7B; Canada’s six major banks explore tokenized deposits; Galaxy added about $100M worth of sUSDS; BTC that has been dormant for ~ten years moved in the past two weeks, totaling about $161M.
• Regulation: The CFTC chair pushed for “large-scale tokenization,” while the SEC continues to open loopholes for on-chain stocks; the CFTC warns about manipulation risks in prediction market “mention” contracts; the EU is watching quantum decryption and stablecoin reserve rules.
• Other: BitMEX ends trading and keeps withdrawals; about $16B BTC options expire this Friday, with the near-term volatility amplifier window approaching; on the AI front, OpenAI/Anthropic go at it the same day, and the UN Security Council hears AI risk advice.
Early on it was still grinding around 86k, but in the evening it directly stomped the spot back to around 85,500. The high is still pinned at 87,200–87,300, but the floor has changed from “defend 86k” to “first see if 85k–85.5k can hold.”
The ETF side isn’t backing down: about $1B on Monday, and another roughly $715M on Tuesday—two-day BTC ETF inflows total around $1.7B. Money is coming in while prices are being given back; the post-short-squeeze digestion is still underway.
CME’s BCH/UNI futures calendar is still propping up the heat: BCH can still rise by about a fifth in a day, but UNI has already slipped from early double digits down to around +5%. The event pulse will fade—don’t write the remaining upside as a new trend.
Trading view
Keep positioning managed by “digestion of gains,” not by fully adding on the “second leg of a new bull.” After the BTC night session lost 86k, prioritize whether the 85k–85.5k spot can hold up; if it breaks, look back down toward the 83k area. Large net ETF inflows on Tuesday are a plus, but Wednesday’s flows aren’t settled yet—don’t rush in. On the macro side, the probability of an October rate hike is still over half, and financing costs haven’t eased. For alts, only trade the confirmed strong names: BCH can ride the event, UNI has already given back—don’t grab the second baton. In MEMEs, PENGU/BONK have volume while PUMP/WIF is fading—use them as a thermometer, not the main core.
Being heated up
ZRO about +21%, BCH about +20%, TIA about +16%—pulse tickets with enough liquidity and clear narratives; PENGU/BONK are also following. UNI’s turnover is still there, but the upside has narrowed from double digits to around +5%, suggesting CME expectations are being realized in part—and cooling in part. The cold side (PUMP, TAO, PEPE) is weakening. The main line is still “market digestion + event-name抢 narrative.” Don’t label a one-day move as a trend.
Technical analysis
$BTC current price is about 85,529, with a 24h range of 85,273–87,283. The first overhead resistance is still last night’s high zone around 87k–87,300; above that, we only talk about the gap filling narrative toward 90k. On the downside, the key level has moved from 86k down to the 85k whole number; if that breaks, look back toward the 83k area. $ETH is about 2,723, with a larger drawdown than BTC—ETH/BTC remains relatively sluggish; wait for the ETH/BTC ratio to stop falling before discussing catch-up. $SOL is about 117, sticking to the upper-middle of its intraday range; relatively defensive, but an independent trend hasn’t emerged yet. Overall it’s a digestion phase after a short squeeze, and the evening session has moved the floor down by one notch.
MEMEs
DOGE is slightly up, PEPE is relatively weak; WIF about −8%, BONK about +11%, PENGU about +12%, PUMP about −8%. The ones with strong-enough volume still skew toward PENGU/BONK—more like event spillover and residual beta, not a broad MEME season. Today, MEMEs are better used as a sentiment thermometer. If they follow, that’s fine, but it’s not recommended to make them the main core. Once the broader market gives back gains, this batch shrinks first.
Trading to watch events
• Spot ETF finalized Wednesday (US Eastern 9/23) flow: after Tuesday’s roughly $715M, will it be a relay or a pullback? Wait for final numbers to price it
• CME BCH/UNI futures 10/19 (pending regulatory approval): volatility before listing and volume after listing—UNI has already given back as a reminder not to trade expectations as certainty
• $BTC spot 85k–85.5k: whether the floor holds in the evening decides the second half of the digestion
• BTC options expiring this Friday at about $16B: a window where short-term volatility is amplified
• October FOMC (around 10/28): Polymarket is still stuck in the tug-of-war between hiking and holding—any hawkish-leaning remarks will be repriced again
