$BTC The most regrettable liquidation I’ve ever seen was never caused by trading the wrong direction. It was that the trader clearly still had some spare money in hand, yet never seized the chance to top up the margin in time.
Around me there was an old player who completely nailed the direction of going long on Ethereum. The market afterward truly kept surging higher. But he happened to get liquidated during a completely normal pullback before the uptrend—right when prices dipped briefly. Originally his account had 10,000 USDT (U). He went all-in at 10x leverage, with margin almost consuming all available funds. The price only retraced about 3%—a normal move—yet the liquidation line was breached instantly. By the time he reacted, his account had already been wiped out to zero.
Later, when he came looking for answers, he was especially unwilling. He kept repeating that he had clearly seen the big trend correctly—so why in the end was there nothing left? The real problem wasn’t the market. The moment he went all-in, he gave himself zero room to breathe: he didn’t leave any extra funds to handle short-term fluctuations; he hadn’t considered that the market often moves in the opposite direction for a bit first, and only then follows the larger trend; and his head was full of “This time I’m definitely going to make a huge profit.” He never left any buffer for “what if I’m wrong first.” $ETH
After that, I set a strict rule for myself: always keep 30% of your U in the account. No matter how certain the market looks, this portion of money absolutely won’t move. It isn’t idle cash—it’s your confidence in the market. When there’s a short-term pullback, you have enough capacity to add to positions and average down. When the trend moves in your favor, you can use your funds to add on and expand your profits. Even if you hit an extreme situation, you won’t be taken out in one move.
Unfortunately, most people can’t do this. They always feel that keeping capital is a waste, and that only going all-in can earn the most. The result is often: when they make money, they only get a small slice; when they lose, they end up folding in the entire principal. In the crypto market, if your account always has usable U, you always retain the initiative. Money isn’t for one big all-in gamble on win or lose—it’s something you grow gradually through good timing.
After so many years of trading, I’ve never played games or sold fantasies. I only share practical methods that can help you survive steadily in the market.
