CME Group announced that on October 19 it will launch Uniswap futures. Once regulatory review is cleared, trading will be listed. UNI jumped 18% on the news, with the price reaching over nine yuan.

Uniswap is the largest on-chain decentralized exchange, and UNI is its governance token. When the token of a DEX gets listed by CME as a futures contract, this isn’t a small deal in the crypto world. Once the contract goes live, institutions can short and hedge—people who previously only had spot positions now have another direction.

But the order book hasn’t been very active: trading volume is only about 1.5 million, while the market cap sits at over six billion. No matter how you look at turnover, it doesn’t seem that lively. A dozen-plus hours after the news broke, volume hasn’t caught up. It’s still more of the market reacting to the push of the news, with limited follow-on speculative demand.
