【BTC’s $3.2 million bet—did you understand it?】
Last Friday, I saw a piece of data: someone placed a $3.2 million “Bitcoin Butterfly” options bet, wagering that by the end of October BTC would rally to 95,000.
To be honest, I’ve seen plenty of big bets like this—eight times out of ten, it’s just a decoy. But this time is different.
A “butterfly” structure itself is a bet that hits both direction and magnitude at the same time. People who rely purely on technical analysis wouldn’t play it this way. To place an order like this, you either have insider information, or you’re extremely confident in your macro judgment.
When I checked, I found three reasons supporting a short-term bullish view:
First, the Fear and Greed Index is 78, but the weekly average is only 63. This isn’t the peak of sentiment—it’s sentiment accelerating. After extreme greed, it doesn’t necessarily drop, but for it to keep rising, it needs new catalysts.
Second, BTC’s market share is 58.9%, still near historical highs. Funds are concentrated in “Big Pie” (BTC). That suggests there’s no obvious sign of sector rotation. As long as “Big Pie” doesn’t fall, the market likely hasn’t topped yet.
Third—and most importantly—there’s that abnormal trading signal. On Kalshi, 54% of the BTC perpetual futures volume has been repeatedly consumed by fixed amounts ($2,500 and $5,000). This kind of tactic is either quant-driven market making, or someone is continuously accumulating. Either way, it indicates someone is positioning.
Muted trading volume is actually one of my bullish reasons. Low volume suggests there isn’t much disagreement; sell pressure is light, and when choosing a direction, there’s less resistance.
Plainly put: at this level, institutions are positioning, sentiment is accelerating, but it’s not yet in the疯狂 (crazy/exuberant) phase. Over the next 7 days, I lean toward testing the resistance at 89076 to the upside.
When would I be wrong? If trading volume suddenly spikes but the price doesn’t follow, and the abnormal trade signal on Kalshi disappears—that would mean someone is distributing, not building positions.
What about you—how do you see this move? Are institutions fishing for reactions, or are they holding a bigger move back?
