Binance’s Ethereum futures open interest rose to approximately $6.58 billion on September 21, reaching a nine-month high. Compared with the roughly $4.8 billion level in late August, this represents an increase of about 37%, or an additional approximately $1.78 billion; in the same period, $ETH moved above $2,700.

Open interest statistics refer to the total of long and short positions that have not been closed. Dollar-denominated figures will also be amplified as the coin price rises, so this number cannot be directly equated to net long exposure, nor should it be interpreted as all new capital flowing in. Position expansion is often accompanied by rising leverage, meaning short-term volatility and liquidation risk typically increase at the same time.

From the market tape, $ETH ’s price rebound coincided with an increase in contract positions, indicating a clear rebound in derivatives market activity. Going forward, it’s still necessary to cross-check the pace of new openings, the funding rate, and spot buy/sell order book activity, to avoid misreading a single high open-interest figure as an unidirectional bullish signal or as confirmation that capital is flooding in across the board.
