In the United States, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) approved the licenses for three digital asset banks within a single day.

Agora has received preliminary approval.

The plan is to establish a national trust bank.

On the same day, two other firms also passed this hurdle.

Stablecoins and AI agents were both included in the reasons for the approvals.

A trust license means it can custody customers’ digital assets.

It is not a typical banking license: it cannot take deposits or make loans.

The bank advantages that Ripple had on the table have been reduced somewhat by this latest expansion.

These applications were submitted as early as 2025, but results only came now.

Companies that receive a license must accept federal-level inspections.

Compliance costs will rise as a result.

The licensing process has two steps: after preliminary approval comes official opening.

With three firms approved on the same day, the review timeline is reportedly being accelerated.

Custody is exactly the missing link that stablecoin issuers need most.

The licensed companies must segregate customer assets according to federal standards.

For crypto, bringing custody under the federal licensing framework may reshape the landscape even more than the text of the approvals themselves.

Who do you think will be the next company to get a license? Let’s discuss in the comments.
