Cardano ($ADA) has entered a fierce race with the Solana ($SOL) and XRP Ledger ($XRP) networks to take control of AI agents’ payments, in a move that reflects an accelerating shift toward empowering machines to execute transactions on their own.
The official x402 toolset now includes special tools for Cardano that allow applications and AI agents to make payments in ADA and other tokens on the network.
However, the network’s intermediary tool has only been tested so far in a pre-production environment, which means its readiness for real-world large-scale use is still uncertain.
This development comes amid growing competition among networks to provide an infrastructure that allows AI agents to execute fast, low-cost payment operations without human intervention.
The question remains open as to when these tools will move from the testing phase to full deployment, and how widely developers will adopt them once they become available.
