Several Hong Kong Stock Connect ETFs included in the mutual market access mechanism saw a sharp increase in trading volume on September 21. According to Odaily, Wind data showed that Southern East-West Select (3441) recorded turnover of HK$339 million, while its daily turnover had stayed below HK$100 million over the past three months. Ping An Technology Select (3406) and Ping An East-West Select (3477) each posted turnover above HK$100 million, both reaching record highs.
An institutional source said some insurance firms have recently received notices on related rules and may have started buying Hong Kong Stock Connect ETFs included in the mutual market access mechanism, with other insurers possibly following. Industry participants said the entry of insurance funds may further diversify the investor base for southbound ETFs and bring more long-term capital into the market.
