In the past 24 hours, related U.S. stock instruments saw $20.69 million in liquidations. The direction was completely split: on the stock side, $11.58 million—86% of liquidations were shorts; on the commodity side, $8.64 million—yet 90% of liquidations were longs.
The short stock side was squeezed with no say left. On the index side, $350,000 in liquidations occurred with almost all of them being shorts; longs on the index basically weren’t hit.
On the commodity side, things are reversed: crude oil long positions are the worst-hit area. On Hyperliquid, the previous trade—a 16,000-barrel WTI long—was liquidated at $93.1, with a single liquidation of $1.49 million. Immediately after that, another Brent long position of more than 10,000 barrels was liquidated for $1.03 million. Together, the two totaled over $2.5 million, and they were all long positions.
In the same pre-market, short stocks got cut, and long crude oil positions also got cut. If you’re on the wrong side, you end up being forced to take a loss.
Tonight at 21:30 US stock market opens—do you think the crude oil bulls can stop the bleeding?
