#香港拟年底前推出批发cbdc Hong Kong plans to roll out a wholesale-type CBDC by the end of this year.
According to policy documents and media reports, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority plans to complete settlement for a wholesale central bank digital currency via EnsembleTX by the end of 2026, and to promote 24-hour operations. It will mainly be used for interbank settlement of tokenized deposits, digital assets, and other transactions. The project has previously piloted real transactions; in the initial stage, it still relies on the traditional RTGS, and is constrained by system time windows.
In addition, the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) and the HKMA are also exploring the use of wholesale CBDC to handle the settlement of pre-paid margin after the close of trading in derivatives. The details will depend on regulatory and market readiness. This is institutional infrastructure and does not mean individuals can use a digital Hong Kong dollar immediately.
