Bitcoin surpasses gold as the real hedge against devaluation, says Raoul Pal

Raoul Pal says that Bitcoin surpasses gold as the main hedge against devaluation.

He points out that currency devaluation erodes savings by approximately 8% per year.

Pal highlights that only cryptoassets and technology assets outperform that rate of devaluation.

Raoul Pal says that Bitcoin (BTC), and not gold, is the best long-term hedge against currency devaluation. He argues that, since Bitcoin is in an earlier stage of adoption, it has more potential for growth than the metal.

Pal made this comparison during a September interview on the Wolf Financial Show program. There, he explained his broader view of how devaluation quietly affects savings and wages.

Devaluation erodes savings every year.

According to Pal, devaluation is the main force behind the rise in asset prices over time. He links this process directly to the liquidity cycles that are largely controlled by central banks and governments.

Why is Bitcoin better than gold? Pal answers

Pal sees gold as base money that cannot increase its value beyond what the global economy already reflects. He explains that Bitcoin works like digital gold with the same scarcity, but on a much earlier adoption curve. In this sense, he summarized the idea in one sentence.

“Digital gold is Bitcoin, but Bitcoin is in an earlier stage of adoption,” Pal said during the interview.

Pal argues that only two asset classes have consistently outperformed the rate of devaluation: cryptocurrencies and technology stocks, following the Nasdaq index.

He cited the Nasdaq’s approximate annual return of 19% over the past 15 years. He calculates that cryptocurrencies have grown between 45% and 110% per year.

Gold, real estate, and other traditional assets, he says, usually match the devaluation rate, but do not surpass it. Pal’s statements reflect a trend among macro investors. More and more, they connect Bitcoin price movements with gold as the devaluation strategy gains momentum.

Whether Bitcoin will be able to maintain that adoption curve remains an open question. The recent strengthening of gold could influence how investors compare the two assets through 2026.
