ANDE, Paraguay's state power company, dismantled an illegal Bitcoin mining farm in Ciudad del Este, a city that borders Foz do Iguaçu in Paraná. The operation took place last Saturday (12), in conjunction with the National Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office.
According to authorities, the site operated without an electricity meter and without any formal control of energy consumption. In total, 25 mining machines were seized, including some MicroBT ASIC models, such as the WhatsMiner M30S+.
In a statement, ANDE said it detected and removed a clandestine power connection used to mine cryptocurrencies in the Remansito neighborhood. The state company also stated that the estimated loss from the operation is around 145 thousand Paraguayan guaranies, or approximately R$ 126 thousand.
Although there is no record of an arrest in the act, ANDE reminds that energy theft in the country can carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. The seized equipment is now with the Public Prosecutor's Office to proceed with the legal proceedings.
