The U.S. Senate failed to advance a crypto clarity bill

The clarity bill failed in a procedural vote in the Senate, falling short of the 60 votes needed to move forward

This setback stalls the crypto market structure bill, though it may still be brought up for another vote

Here, let me explain what the crypto clarity bill is again:

Simply put: Congress wants to create a set of “rules of the game” specifically for regulating cryptocurrencies—clarifying which ones fall under the SEC and which ones fall under the CFTC, and providing the industry with clearer oversight. It’s been under discussion for a long time.

This time, when the Senate tried to formally begin consideration, it first had to clear a threshold—getting 60 votes—to prove it could start a serious discussion. The votes weren’t there, so it got stuck at the entrance.

So for now, the bill can’t move forward. The industry will have to keep operating in the current environment (rather vague, largely relying on regulators to enforce the rules).

Theoretically, another vote could still happen, but with elections nearing, it doesn’t look very likely this year.

For the crypto community, it’s a setback for this stage, but not a total end.
