On September 14, the Korea Exchange will launch after-hours stock trading, covering over 2,600 KOSPI and KOSDAQ listed stocks
On September 9, the Korea Exchange announced that it will launch after-hours stock trading starting September 14. Trading hours will be 16:00 to 20:00 each trading day. The service will cover most listed stocks on the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets, with the maximum number of tradable issues reaching 2,651. This after-hours trading will introduce a market-maker system to provide price quotes and liquidity support for stocks that lack liquidity—this is the first time that market makers will be introduced to South Korea’s after-hours stock market. To enhance investor protection, after-hours trading will prohibit market orders, allowing only order types such as limit orders, best limit orders, and best market-limit orders. Meanwhile, investment warnings, investment risks, management-related items, suspended stocks, and stocks that were not traded on the main market on the same day will be excluded from after-hours trading. Currently, the number of stocks tradable on South Korea’s alternative trading platform NXT is up to about 800. After the Korea Exchange’s launch of after-hours trading, the range of stocks available to investors will expand significantly.
