On February 24, 2025, it marked 3 years since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin (originally from Russia, residing in Singapore) published an emotional post in support of Ukraine. In the post, he emphasized the spirit of the Ukrainian people and their centuries-old struggle for freedom and independence.

"Ukraine is everything, and even more. Many have worked hard and sacrificed a lot over the decades (perhaps centuries) to make it what it is today. I wish the country a bright, safe, sustainable, free, and independent future," Buterin wrote on X.

This is not the first expression of support for Ukraine from one of the most influential figures in the crypto community. Back at the beginning of the full-scale invasion in 2022, Buterin sharply condemned the Kremlin's aggression, calling it a 'crime against the Ukrainian and Russian peoples,' and wished everyone safety.

At that time, he donated significant amounts in Ethereum for humanitarian needs in Ukraine — in particular, in April 2022, he transferred 1500 ETH (equivalent to $5 million at that time) to the Unchain Ukraine and Aid For Ukraine funds.

In 2024, Buterin also visited Kyiv during Ukrainian Blockchain Week and participated in the ETHKyiv hackathon, which highlighted his interest in developing the tech community in Ukraine even during wartime.
