Odaily Planet Daily News: According to a new report from Coingecko, January 2023 was the second-highest month for layoffs in the cryptocurrency industry, with a new wave of layoffs hitting the industry, leaving as many as 2,806 people unemployed. According to the study, the total number of layoffs in the crypto industry last month is also likely to exceed the nearly 7,000 layoffs in 2023 last year as "the bear market and difficult global macroeconomic environment continue to squeeze corporate profits." In the January data, centralized cryptocurrency exchanges accounted for 84% of the total layoffs, and researchers pointed to falling trading volumes and falling revenues as the main reasons behind the layoffs. Major crypto exchanges that announced layoffs in January include Huobi, Coinbase, Blockchain.com, Crypto.com, and Luno. For some of these companies, last month was not the first wave of layoffs. Companies such as Coinbase and Crypto.com laid off employees for the first time in June 2022. (Decrypt)
