Odaily Planet Daily News Jeremy Goldman, a long-term copyright and intellectual property lawyer who has worked closely with multiple NFT projects, has published an article to explain whether Yuga Labs' granting of IP licenses to holders is valid. Goldman said that first of all, Yuga Labs owns the copyright of BAYC. When original works are fixed in a tangible medium of expression, copyright automatically arises, including digital art stored in computer memory, whether or not it has been administratively registered. Secondly, Yuga Labs owns the copyright of digital artworks associated with BAYC NFTs and has the right to grant BAYC NFT holders ownership of digital artworks and permission to use artworks for commercial and other purposes. According to previous reports, court documents show that Yuga Labs, the parent company of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), has not registered any copyrights for the images in the series, which means that the company does not own the copyright of BAYC's images. Previously, Yuga Labs sued NFT artist Ryder Ripps for using BAYC images in the "RR/BAYC" NFT series, but only accused him of suspected false advertising, trademark infringement and domain name squatting and did not involve copyright disputes.
