On December 27, Mr. Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, confirmed that he will attend and deliver a speech at the POW’ER 2023 Hong Kong Web3 Innovators Summit to be held on January 9-10.
On October 31, the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau of Hong Kong issued the "Policy Statement on the Development of Virtual Assets in Hong Kong", which clarified the Hong Kong government's vision and policies on the virtual asset industry, related innovative technologies and applications, and the development of its ecosystem, and aroused strong repercussions in the industry.
Mr. Paul Chan, the Financial Secretary of Hong Kong, explained at a conference in Hong Kong in November that embracing innovation will definitely bring new power to economic and industrial development under the premise of maintaining security and properly controlling risks. The realization of its potential and innovation in application require the development of related technologies and the entire ecosystem, including virtual currencies, virtual asset exchanges, metaverse development, and innovative applications such as securities issuance and trade finance in the form of "tokenization".
Mr. Paul Chan is currently the Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, a certified public accountant and former president of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Prior to joining the Government, Mr. Chan held a number of public offices, including as a legislator and Chairman of the Legal Aid Services Council. Mr. Chan served as Secretary for Development from July 2012 to January 2017, and has been the Financial Secretary since 2017.
POW’ER 2023 Hong Kong Web3 Innovators Summit is hosted by MarsBit and co-organized by Hong Kong Cyberport, G-Rocket International Accelerator, and element HongKongDao. It is the first large-scale offline industry summit in Hong Kong since the release of the "Policy Declaration on the Development of Virtual Assets in Hong Kong" on October 31.
According to the summit director and MarsBit co-founder Shang Silin, the two-day summit's main agenda focuses on hot topics in the crypto industry, including virtual asset trading platform supervision, digital Hong Kong dollars and cross-border payments, Web3 regulatory salons, ETF product strategies, ETH2.0, DID, Web3 social networking, NFT platform opportunities, Gamefi and the metaverse. In addition, the summit will hold a cross-border exchange reception between Hong Kong financial institutions and Web3, and will organize a closed-door discussion between Web3 startup representatives HongKongDao and relevant Hong Kong institutions.
It is reported that the summit has invited more than 60 heavyweight guests from the industry, including the market's leading virtual asset trading and management platforms, Hong Kong's first batch of licensed financial institutions, world-renowned investment institutions, and active Web3 entrepreneurs. The registered participants also cover first-line institutions and practitioners in Hong Kong, Singapore, Southeast Asia and the United States.
