Golden Finance reported that ZeroSync project leader Robin Linus recently released a white paper announcing that BitVM can implement Turing-complete Bitcoin contracts without changing the Bitcoin consensus rules. BitVM will enable the logic of Bitcoin contracts to be executed off-chain, and verification will be performed on Bitcoin, similar to Ethereum’s optimistic rollup.
The BitVM architecture is based on the fraud proof and challenge response model, where the prover can make claims and the verifier can perform fraud proofs to punish the prover for false claims. Linus said that Bitcoin is currently limited to basic operations such as signatures, time locks and hash locks, but more interesting applications can be achieved with BitVM.
