One of HTX's hot wallets was drained by 5,000 ETH on September 25, worth about $8 million at the time. Shortly after the hack occurred, the company contacted the hackers and claimed to know their identities.
HTX ultimately offered to pay out a 5% reward worth around $400,000 and not take any legal action if they returned 95% of the funds by the October 2 deadline.
In an October 7 post by X (formerly Twitter), Huobi Global investor and HTX advisor Justin Sun noted: “The hacker made the right choice. We would like to thank everyone in the industry for their help!”
