Bro Omen, a YouTuber motovlog with 1.5 million followers, now has to work hard to become an ojol driver. This happened after he admitted he was cheated worth IDR 10 billion in cryptocurrency.
Chronology of the Bro Omen Case
In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Bro Omen said that he was attracted by the lure of big profits from crypto investments. He was also willing to invest all his savings, amounting to IDR 5 billion, and mortgaged his house to the bank to get an additional IDR 5 billion.
Unfortunately, Bro Omen's hopes of becoming rich from crypto were dashed. The value of the crypto assets he bought actually plummeted, and he lost all his money. As a result, Bro Omen was in bank debt of IDR 5 billion. He also had to sell his assets, including his house and car, to pay his debts.
"When I got involved in crypto, I was all in (all the money was invested).
I eat what my friends say. "I was also wrong because he intended to double my money, which is worth billions," said Bro Omen on his YouTube.
Yes, I felt like I was winning and that really made me feel like 'wow, I can do it this fast'. So at that time my capital of Rp. 1 million could become Rp. 10 million. So I was surprised. "Because it was tempting and I was optimistic, after discussing it with my wife, I decided to mortgage the house with a tenor of 6 months to the bank to borrow IDR 5 billion," he added.
After feeling like he had made a profit, Bro Omen actually became very optimistic so he invested all his money.
"After that, I was all in. My total capital was IDR 10 billion. So this is how the coin system works, buy it now, it's locked for 6 months. So you can't sell it before 6 months. So when I bought it (IDR 10 billion), my coins the next day it immediately increased 5 times. But at that time it couldn't be sold," he said.
Entering the 5th month prices start to fluctuate. However, in the 6th month the price dropped and it turned out the website was fake.
"In the 5th month the price started to go up and down. In the 6th month the price dropped. And when I wanted to take it, I really couldn't do anything about the website. It was like an error."
To pay off his debt, Bro Omen had no other choice but to sell the YouTube channel he had been developing for a long time and made it his main source of income. Reportedly, on October 1 2023, Bro Omen's house was confiscated by the bank because of his outstanding debt.
Now, he lives in a rented house, and his condition can be said to be experiencing difficult economic times. Bro Omen also returned to his old job as an online motorcycle taxi to provide for his family. Jakarta is Bro Omen's place of origin and he currently lives with his small family in a rented house.
