Microsoft is forming a new team to advance its artificial intelligence plans. The tech giant is hiring a professional to develop an energy strategy based on small modular reactors (SMRs) and micro reactor power. This move is part of a broader effort by Microsoft to support the development of AI models.
The ideal candidate for this position should have at least six years of experience in the nuclear industry, engineering or energy market. The position will also be responsible for exploring other experimental energy technologies.
This Microsoft initiative underscores the growing importance of sustainable and efficient energy solutions in the field of AI. Complex machine learning models, such as deep learning, can consume a significant amount of energy for a number of reasons, including complex computations and large volumes of data. Therefore, the development of more efficient algorithms and hardware, as well as the use of renewable energy sources for data centers, such as nuclear power, are crucial steps to reduce the energy consumption of AI models.
