Solflare confirmed today that an incident involving a third-party staking provider affected its own validator keys, and the validators have stopped generating staking rewards. Media outlets including The Block reported the same account: around 1.56 million SOL had been delegated. Users’ delegated SOL remains in their staking accounts, and the protocol does not allow validators to move the principal. At the time of writing, SOL was trading at about $102.98 on CoinGecko (snapshot taken around 18:06 Beijing time).
The key distinction is between two things: the principal hasn’t been moved, and rewards have been paused. They’re not the same. With self-custody, the principal stays in users’ accounts, so this looks more like an operational incident than a hot-wallet drain. The counterpoint: treat any future DM urging you to click a link to migrate your validator as phishing by default.
Until an app upgrade notice is issued, follow only migration instructions posted through official channels. If the principal is transferred out unexpectedly, or the official account changes its statement to say funds were affected, treat this as an escalated incident—not as merely “rewards paused.”
