【Weekly Methodology】Too far from MA99? When to screen out
A bullish moving-average alignment doesn’t mean you should chase.
If the price is too far above the daily MA99, its staying power is less reliable.
Our thresholds (daily)
Distance from MA99 ≥45%: excessive; exclude outright
Distance from MA99 ≥30%: high; downgrade to watchlist
Distance from daily EMA50 ≥35%: excessive; also exclude outright
Examples to check from this morning’s (10-14) screen
Exclude: STX — scored 11 points but didn’t make the primary trend list
Current price approx. 0.435; daily MA99 ≈ 0.232
Distance from MA99 approx. +87.6%; distance from daily EMA50 approx. +37.8%
No matter how high the score, treat it as overextended and cut it first
Downgrade to watchlist: FIL — scored 9 points
Current price approx. 1.158; daily MA99 ≈ 0.829
Distance from MA99 approx. +39.8% (high range)
The structure is still intact, but it won’t enter the primary trend list. Reassess once the gap narrows
How to use this
Measure the distance from the moving averages first, then consider the score
If it’s excessively extended: don’t chase with high leverage
Only consider an upgrade once the gap narrows and price pulls back to EMA20/50 and holds
What we do at 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
8 a.m.: Screen long and short candidates using a 12-point system; first exclude or downgrade those that are too far extended, and record the current price
8 p.m.: Review based on the morning’s posted prices, so you can verify the results
