Charlie Munger: Do these five things, and ordinary people are almost certain to succeed
In an interview, Munger summed up his lifelong approach in 36 seconds.
First, spend less than you earn. Every dollar you save is ammunition for the road ahead.
Second, invest your money wisely. Understand the business, look for a moat, and pay a fair price. These three filters eliminate 99% of opportunities.
Third, stay away from toxic people and situations. They won’t make you go broke overnight; they’ll just slowly drain you dry.
Fourth, keep learning throughout your life. Thirty minutes a day adds up to a skill you can master in ten years.
Fifth, delay gratification—a lot. Take 100 now, or 259 ten years from now? This isn’t asceticism; it’s waiting willingly after doing the math.
Follow these five principles, and you’re almost certain to succeed.
If you can’t, you’ll have to rely on luck—a whole lot of luck.
