⚠ Ethereum could lose a key advantage over Bitcoin

An update called EIP-8363 is under consideration. It’s a draft proposal to change Ethereum network rules, published on August 4 by Ethereum Foundation researchers.

• The document proposes burning an increasing portion of validator rewards (network participants who maintain the network and receive rewards for it) as the share of ETH in staking grows

• Once it reaches about 50% staked ETH (60.25 million coins), rewards for issuing new coins will be completely zeroed out; only transaction fees and MEV (additional income from roughly the number of transactions in a block) will remain

SharpLink head Joseph Chalom and Aave founder Stani Kulechov have spoken out against reducing ETH staking returns.

​In their view, this will make DeFi loans more expensive, reduce liquidity, and drive away institutions that would lose ETH’s key advantage over Bitcoin.

​Messari analysts assess the chances of the proposal being adopted as low.
