Decred officially just posted a warning on X: the L1 blockchain Decred has discovered a security vulnerability, and the fix patch will be released tonight (August 18) Beijing time. Out of caution, the official advises all token-holding node operators and users to temporarily disable voting and mining functions until the upgrade is complete, to avoid asset risk during the vulnerability window. Decred states that once the patch goes live, they will publish an announcement immediately.
For users currently running node
$DCR or participating in PoS voting and PoW mining, this is a "better safe than sorry" moment:
1. Before upgrading, stop voting transactions to avoid signing out votes that could be exploited by the vulnerability;
2. Turning off mining means pausing block reward production—this is a "safety lock," not a sign that something is wrong;
3. Wait to resume operations after the official posts a "patch is live" announcement on its X (formerly Twitter) account @decredproject.
In general, when an L1 project proactively discloses a vulnerability and provides a remediation timeline, it indicates the team is still actively maintaining the system rather than allowing risk to spread unchecked. In the short term, pausing voting and hashrate will reduce on-chain activity, but in the long run it is actually beneficial to ecosystem security.
Friendly reminder: any claims that ask you to transfer funds before upgrading, privately message a "customer service" account, or click on unknown links are very likely phishing—please only trust announcements from official accounts.
